WalkTall Walking Group

WalkTallSpain is an informal walking group, a community of friends who explore the beautiful landscapes of our local area together. This provides a safe, social, and supportive way to enjoy the outdoors - without the intensity of a "heads down, charge ahead" fitness group. The name "WalkTallSpain" comes from my love of walking, my height, and my home in Spain. It also symbolises confidence and bravery - something many of us need when adapting to life in a new country.

How far and where are the walking routes?
We walk between 5 and 10 miles (ca. 16 km), so you will need to be fit and healthy. I am conscious of walking at the speed of the person at the back, but I have to ensure that the speed is comfortable for all. I do encourage stopping to take in the views, but those who join must be of good health and happy to walk together. Our walks take place mainly in Almanzora, Albox, and Cantoria, with occasional routes in Mojácar, Oria, Somontín, Purchena, Fines, Olula del Río, Macael, and more. Walks are typically scheduled for Monday Morning and Wednesday Evening (Early Monday and Wednesday mornings in the summer). You pick and choose the walks you want to attend, based on the route information provided and your ability.

How much does it cost to join the walks?
I offer this for FREE, becaure this is not a commercial activity. I offer my time, knowledge and 70+ routes for free, because I love to bring people together walking and talking, helping them to create connections, and supportive friendships. Hopefully making a new life in Spain more enjoyable. (For those asking - Donations are accepted, but not expected)

Are you a trained walking guide?
No. I have founded an informal walking group. I do not hold public liability, group rescue, or medical insurance. ALL participants walk at their own risk and are solely responsible for their own safety, belongings, and well-being. I strongly recommend that anyone walking with me, whether on a group walk or route scouting (recce) walk, take out personal rescue insurance, medical insurance, and any other insurance required for peace of mind. You should discuss your needs for insurance with your insurance advisor. I will not be held liable for any injuries, accidents, or losses that may occur.

Are children / dogs welcome?
Dogs are not included out of respect for group members who are not comfortable around them, have allergies, or have fears. Due to the social nature of the group walks, the group is not open to children.

Can I take photos?
Images are taken by myself and others. To avoid any issues, I ask that you PLEASE DO NOT JOIN this walking group if you do NOT want any image/s used online.

What is required for each walk?

a signed disclaimer for the first walk and a positive attitude
appropriate clothing & footwear for the weather and route
torch (some mornings & evenings they will be required)
hi-vis clothing for roads and visibility
whistle (in case of emergency)
food and drink appropriate for the route duration, energy levels required, and weather
basic first aid kit - plasters / painkillers / electrolytes etc - When they are needed they are invaluable!
charged mobile phone and emergency contact number/s

How do I join the walking group?
Initially, your request will be placed on a waiting list, and when a spot becomes available, I'll contact you about joining the Facebook group that gives all upcoming walks.
