- Almanzora -
I love this Spanish bar on Calle Estacion in Almanzora, they open early enabling the Spanish workers to get refreshed before they go off to work, and I am sometimes seen there having a morning coffee after a walk across the Rambla. The owners Andres and Maria, their family and other staff are very friendly, they run that bar and kitchen brilliantly, the place is spotless. There's a real mix of Spanish and English clientele, everyone is made to feel welcome. Carrillo's have an excellent selection of drinks, I'm a wine drinker and can honestly say that the wines are great, when I drink spirits I like their measures! We frequent here so often that I have the sweatshirt and t-shirt to prove it!!
- Cantoria -
Freddie always gives a warm, happy welcome when you visit this lovely outside tapas bar in Cantoria. Located near the old converted railways station and opposite a small colourful play area. The location is sunny and bright, with fantastic views of the mountains opposite. If you need to use the facilities, just as Freddie for a key, the bathroom is located a short walk down by the station.

Asador Ruta 40
We ate a couple of times in this steak house restaurant, during our overnight stay. What an amazing place with exceptionally beautiful food. I have been a veggie for 4 years, but simply HAD to try some of the meat platter that came out, my mouth was watering just from smelling it. I wasn't disappointed. I can also recommend the goats cheese salad. Portions are very generous so make sure you go there hungry, otherwise you will miss out on the delicious freshly baked puddings....another recommendation for you, the cheesecake! If you have a family celebration, this is the ideal place to go. The rooms are basic but very clean and the bed we had was lovely and comfortable. Go on, treat yourself to a romantic night away, enjoy some nice walks nearby, dine on succulent steak and drink some of the best wines available. An ideal stop over on the way to Orce and Castril. Marcelo Entre Tapas
We were first introduced to the lovely friendly Argentinian couple Marisa & Marcelo in 2017, they own Marcelo Entre Tapas, in Mojacar. Their tapas bar is definitely worth a visit next time you're in Mojacar Playa. Such a quaint, adorable place. The food is heavenly delicious. Highly recommended. They are located at Estrella del Cantal, Mojácar, ES 04638 and can be contacted on +34 950 03 18 12
Valery is a music and cocktail sports bar in Mojacar. We have been here for breakfast several times and listened to the live solo guitar player Ashley, who is well known in the area of Mojacar. The food has been consistently delicious, and we plan to visit one evening when we next stay in the area, because I look forward to trying one or three of their fantastic looking cocktails! Lookout for their hashtag #ThisMustBeThePlace on Instagram! You will find Valery on Paseo Del Mediterraneo 213, Mojacar Playa. Bookings can be made by calling +34 662 96 84 60
- San Juan de los Terreros -
Asador El Castillo /Castle Before going to order your meal, pop over to the other side and check out the views from the 18th century castle fort ruins, they are stunning. The restaurant itself is gorgeous with the ability to sit either inside or out. Even if you sit inside there are large windows that can open up and let the sea breeze through and the views are breathtaking. It is a Spanish run restaurant, so we use our limited Spanish and get by OK. The staff we found to be friendly and the food and drink delicious.
Chiringuito HenrokWe love San Juan Beach. We've visited here over many years on holiday, and it was in Henrocks (when it was just a bar) that we decided to get engaged. Henrocks is now a lovely popular restaurant that specialised in skewers, paellas and fresh fish. They cook their fish over a BBQ made from an old rowing boat, their fish is to die for!!! With views of the beach and friendly staff, what more would you want?
