Energy Healing

I have been reading about energy healing, and Reiki was a method that kept cropping up. I had very little knowledge on this subject, so when I was offered a complimentary session I thought this would be a great start into learning more, and a nod to the universe for providing when I was still feeling the pinch after Christmas! When I attended my first session I was in pretty good health and I went with an open mind. Part of me thought there could be something in this; the other thought it could be more like a placebo effect. Even so, if you feel you are feeling better as a result of something, is that such a bad thing? My first ever session was with the lovely Tania Bonser (details provided on this page), I instantly felt relaxed and welcomed.

What is Reiki?

The energy around us is our aura which consists of seven layers, each having their own frequency/vibration

  • Physical
  • Astra
  • Lower
  • Higher
  • Spiritual
  • Intuitional
  • Absolute planes
  • They affect our thought patterns, feelings, emotions and health. Imbalance can create issues for us.

Reiki means ‘universal life energy’ in Japanese. It is believed that by channelling energy the body can be filled with positive energy causing disease-making negative energy to disappear. These different vibration levels are in the energy fields around our body, when a practitioner uses their hands to re-balance the vibrations it is believed that it changes negatively affected areas of your energy field, replacing it with positive energy.

    So what happens during Reiki?

My personal experience will be different from yours. So I can only report on that. I didn’t feel anything much during my first visit. But to be fair I was guarded and like to be in control of situations, so I wasn’t very open to emotional releases, on this occasion anyway. Reiki will not override your free will.

I did relax into a dreamlike state which I recognise as meditation. The warmth from the practitioner’s hands took me by surprise, especially as the room was slightly on the chilly side initially but I found it really therapeutic in itself. Even when she wasn’t laying her hands on me, I could feel the heat as if I was sitting next to a heat lamp!

There were two things that happened that I can’t quite explain.

I gasped and sat bolt upright…. In my head anyway! It was so surreal and an almost disturbing moment. It was like an out of body experience. I wasn’t thinking of anything specific leading to this. It felt so real!

When my leg was touched I felt severe pain in my stomach, right below the ribs. My initial thought was the sandwich I gulped on route to the appointment was a dodgy chicken sarnie. Until it happened again…and again, and on the same part on both legs! I looked this up and there are some side effects to Reiki which can include abdominal disturbances. It makes sense that there would be some disturbances in your body as you are having the energy fields changed after years of emotional trauma and physical misuse. I see it as part of the healing process. I am working more on not internalising stress and anxiety as it’s always affected my stomach, so why would it not affect my stomach when unblocking years of that negative energy!

    Result of my Reiki Experience

My practitioner was surprised at how high my aura was when I was laying down; it was up to the lightshade. I have since read that this may demonstrate intent to control (hmmm maybe lol) and can also indicate spreading yourself too thin by taking too much responsibility for others (I’m guilty of this too)

I was told that she had to work a lot on my head as it was so busy in there. (That sounds right too!)

I have read that a 1hr Reiki session is equal to 3hrs of deep sleep during the important healing and repair level. And I can believe that. I had to sit in the car for a bit to wake myself up. I sure felt like I had been in a deep sleep, and we all know the benefits of that.

I have to confess that since the session I have felt lighter and happy, but to be transparent, I have also started walking 50+ miles a week which I know is good for me – it FeedsMySoul. My mind is less cluttered, I am worrying less and I feel really great. Coincidence? You decide.

I’m off to book my second session!
